There are certain situations in which a disk cleaner won't help you with much if you need to free up a large amount of disk space. Sometimes, you've got to take the bull by the horns and delve deep into your folders structure and decide what you wish to keep and what you don't need anymore. This is where WizTree comes in. It can analyze the disk space usage on individual partitions and it gives you a clear picture on what files take up most of your precious space.

WizTree is free, but you can make a donation if you wish to support future developments. Installing the application is not a difficult task and it doesn't take more than a minute to complete. It works on all modern Windows platforms and it doesn't have any special requirements.

All you have to do is select one of your partitions in a drop menu and click a button. In a few seconds, the analysis reports will appear on the right side of the interface, as well as a visual representation in the lower half. The visual representation consists of blocks of different sizes and colors. The larger the block, the more disk space its corresponding file uses. Also, each color represents a different file type.

If you hover the mouse cursor over a block, its full paths will pop up. Furthermore, clicking a block will show the actual file in a tree structure, on the same window. Additionally, you can switch to a different tab, where you can find a full list of all files, placed in order by size. If you want to get rid of a large file, you can simply right click it in this list or right click its corresponding block to reveal the standard Explorer context menu, after which you can select the Delete option.
